BEST BEFORE ≠ USE BY

Find out about the big difference between product labelling

BEST BEFORE label means:

  • there is no risk in consuming products passed best before date
  • you may still sell the products without any limitations
  • British Food Standard Agency says: “Except for eggs, best before dates are about quality, not safety”
  • when the date is passed, it doesn’t mean that the food will be harmful, but it might begin to lose its flavour and texture

USE BY label means:

  • products must be sold and used before the final date
  • food may be dangerous to your health when expired

There are people who are happy to collect and distribute the surplus of food you don’t need. Call Best Before Project!
